The Golden City

Why Choose Our Jaisalmer Tour Packages?

Jaisalmer was founded in 1156 by Rawal Jaisal on the old camel caravan route across the Thar Desert. The whole town is built of yellow sandstone, which glows gold at sunset, hence the name Golden City. A good Jaisalmer tour mixes the fort and havelis in town with an evening, or a full night, out in the dunes.

What we plan for you

  • Sightseeing paced to your time, from a few hours to several days
  • A private car for sightseeing and your onward journey
  • A hotel in town, a desert camp, or one night of each
  • Camel safari, jeep safari and sunset at the dunes
  • Jaisalmer-only trips, or routes with Jodhpur and more
  • Everything agreed on WhatsApp or email before you travel

Your quote lists the transport, stay, activities and meals that are included, so there are no surprises.

Must-see sights

What Can You See on a Jaisalmer Tour?

01

Jaisalmer Fort: The Living Fort

Also called Sonar Qila, the fort was built in 1156 on Trikuta Hill and is one of the six UNESCO-listed Hill Forts of Rajasthan. Unlike most forts, it's still lived in: thousands of people have homes, shops, guesthouses and temples inside its walls. Walk the lanes to the Raj Mahal palace and the carved Jain temples (12th to 16th century), then climb to the ramparts for views over the town.

Allow two to three hours. People live here, so respect homes and keep your voice down in residential lanes.

02

Patwon Ki Haveli

A row of five merchant mansions built in the early 1800s by the Patwa family, with stone balconies so finely carved they look like lace. One of the havelis is a museum, showing how wealthy traders lived.

03

Salim Singh Ki Haveli

Built around 1815 for Salim Singh, the state's powerful prime minister. Look for its arched roof, the blue cupolas and the peacock-shaped brackets on the top floor.

04

Nathmal Ki Haveli

A late 19th-century haveli carved by two brothers, one working on each side, so the two halves are similar but not identical. Spot the stone elephants guarding the entrance.

05

Gadisar Lake

A 14th-century man-made lake that once supplied the town's water, lined with ghats, small temples and the carved Tilon Ki Pol gateway. Come at sunrise for still water and soft light, or take a short boat ride.

Good to know

  • Best at sunrise
  • Pedal and rowing boats
  • 10 min from the fort

06

Sam Sand Dunes and Desert Experiences

About 40 km from town, Sam is where most camel rides, jeep safaris and desert camps are. Sunset over the dunes is the highlight, followed by folk music and dinner at the camp. Want it quieter? Khuri, about 45 km away, has smaller crowds.

Camel rides, jeep safaris and camp stays are part of a package only when you choose them. We list exactly what's included before you book.

Also worth adding

Bada Bagh's royal cenotaphs at sunset (about 6 km), the abandoned village of Kuldhara (about 18 km), and Tanot Mata Temple near the border (about 120 km, ID needed). Try ker sangri and dal baati churma while you're here.

Jaisalmer 2 Nights 3 Days PackageDay 1: arrive, check in, sunset at Gadisar or Bada Bagh.Day 2: fort and havelis, then the dunes for sunset and a camp night.Day 3: Kuldhara on the way back, then departure.View itinerary →

The Thar Desert

Jaisalmer Desert Tour Packages: What Should You Include?

For most guests, the desert is the reason to come to Jaisalmer. First decide: a sunset visit to the dunes, or a full night out there?

Sam or Khuri dunes? Sam is bigger, livelier and has the most camps. Khuri is smaller and much quieter, which suits couples and anyone who wants a calm night. Both are good for sunset.

Important: booking a Jaisalmer city tour does not automatically include a desert safari or camp. Your quote shows each one separately.

Costs

Jaisalmer Tour Package Price and Trip Budget

Short answer: what you pay for Jaisalmer comes down to your camp or hotel type, the number of nights, the season, the car and which desert activities you pick. Peak dates around Christmas and New Year cost more. We quote for your exact dates.

How to plan a Jaisalmer budget trip

  1. Pick the sights you really want, and skip the rest.
  2. Compare camps by what's included, not just the starting rate.
  3. Check whether the car and safaris are included.
  4. Avoid Christmas and New Year week if you want lower prices.
  5. Ask for a full price breakdown so you can compare fairly.

What decides your price

  • Number of travellers and rooms or tents
  • Hotel category or desert camp type
  • Car type and total distance

Two cities, one trip

Jodhpur and Jaisalmer Tour Package

Pair the Blue City with the Golden City. Jodhpur is about 285 km from Jaisalmer, around 5 hours by road, so a 4 to 5 day trip covers both comfortably.

Starting in Jaipur? We plan a Jaipur, Jodhpur and Jaisalmer route too. View Jodhpur Tour Packages →

  2. Day 3: drive to Jaisalmer, sunset at Gadisar or Bada Bagh
  3. Day 4: fort and havelis, then a desert camp night at Sam or Khuri
  4. Day 5: sunrise on the dunes and departure

Plan by season

When Is a Good Time to Visit Jaisalmer?

Short answer: the best months for Jaisalmer are October to March, with warm days and cool desert nights. Most desert camps run only in this season.

  • October to March: the peak season. December and January nights in the desert get very cold, so pack warm layers.
  • April to June: very hot, often 45°C. Many camps close, so plan early mornings and evenings only.
  • July to September: little rain and few tourists. Check that your camp is open before booking.
  • Desert Festival: usually in February, with camel races, folk music and turban-tying contests.

Travelling over Diwali, Christmas or New Year? Book early, because camps and hotels fill up fast.

How to Reach Jaisalmer

  • By train: Jaisalmer railway station, with direct trains from Delhi, Jaipur and Jodhpur

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Jaisalmer Tour Packages

Got another question? Call or WhatsApp +91 77373 10027.

What is the best Jaisalmer tour package?

For most travellers, the 2 days 1 night package is the best fit: Jaisalmer Fort and the havelis on day one, then sunset on the dunes and a night at a desert camp. If you have one more day, the 2 nights 3 days plan adds Bada Bagh and Kuldhara at an easy pace.

How many days are enough for Jaisalmer?

Two days and one night are enough for the fort, the havelis and a desert camp night. One day covers only the town sights, and three or four days give you time for Kuldhara, Tanot or a slower desert stay.

What is the best time to visit Jaisalmer?

October to March is the best time to visit Jaisalmer. Days are warm and desert nights are cool, and almost all camps are open. April to June is very hot and many camps shut.

Sam or Khuri: which sand dunes are better?

Sam is better if you want a lively evening with more camps and activities, and Khuri is better if you want a quiet, less crowded night. Both are about 40 to 45 km from Jaisalmer and both have good sunsets.

What is included in a Jaisalmer tour package?

That depends on the plan you choose. A typical package has your hotel or camp, a private car, sightseeing, and a camel or jeep safari with dinner and a folk show at the camp. Your written quote lists every inclusion and extra.

Can I book a Jaisalmer desert package with an overnight camp?

Yes. We book Swiss tents and luxury camps at Sam and Khuri, usually with a sunset camel ride, a folk music and dance show, dinner, a bonfire and breakfast. Transfers from town can be included.

Is Jaisalmer suitable for a couple's or honeymoon trip?

Yes. Couples love a heritage hotel stay in town, a private camel ride at sunset and a quiet luxury tent at Khuri under the stars. We can arrange a candlelight dinner on request.

Can I plan a budget trip to Jaisalmer?

Yes. Choose a standard camp over a luxury one, avoid Christmas and New Year week, and keep the sightseeing list short. We send a clear price breakdown so you can compare options easily.

Can I arrange a Jaisalmer one-day sightseeing tour?

Yes. In one day we cover Jaisalmer Fort, the Jain temples, Patwon Ki Haveli, Salim Singh Ki Haveli and Gadisar Lake, with a private car and walking time in the old lanes. A sunset trip to Sam can be added.

Can I combine Jodhpur and Jaisalmer in one Rajasthan trip?

Yes. Jodhpur is about 285 km from Jaisalmer, around 5 hours by road. A 4 to 5 day trip with two nights in each city, including one desert camp night, works well.

What should I pack for a Jaisalmer desert trip?

Pack light cotton clothes for the day, a warm jacket for desert nights (especially December and January), sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat, a scarf for sand and wind, and closed shoes for the dunes.

How do I get a quote for a Jaisalmer tour package?

WhatsApp Safari Tour India on +91 77373 10027, or email info@safaritourindia.com, with your dates, group size, number of nights, starting point and the camp or activities you want. We reply with a plan and a price.
