Rajasthan Leopard Safari Packages: Jhalana, Amagarh and Jawai

If you're looking for a leopard safari in Rajasthan, you have three good choices. Jhalana Leopard Reserve is right inside Jaipur city, so you can fit a drive in between the forts and markets. Amagarh, on Jaipur's eastern edge, is quieter, with fewer jeeps. Jawai, between Udaipur and Jodhpur, has granite hills and small villages where leopards live close to local herders. Safari Tour India books the permit, your hotel, a private car and sightseeing together as one Rajasthan Leopard Safari package.

Our team is based in Ranthambore, Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, and we plan leopard and tiger safaris across the state all season long.

You can plan everything with us on WhatsApp or email, whether you live in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad or Kolkata, or you're flying in from the UK, USA, Europe, Australia or the UAE. We pick you up from Jaipur, Udaipur or Jodhpur airport, the railway station or your hotel. Leopards are shy, so we can't promise a sighting, but two or three drives give you a good chance. Send us your dates and city: call or WhatsApp +91 77373 10027.

Why go

Why Choose a Leopard Safari in Rajasthan?

Leopards in rocky hills

Leopards here live on rocky slopes, scrub and the Aravalli hills. At Jawai they often rest on open granite at dawn and dusk, which makes them easier to pick out when they're around. They are still unpredictable.

Short drives near Jaipur

Jhalana and Amagarh let you add a wildlife drive to a Jaipur city break. We time the hotel pickup and drop around your reporting time and the rest of your sightseeing.

Wildlife photography

Jawai's rocks catch soft light early and late in the day. A private jeep gives you room for your group and gear. Drones are not allowed without official permission, so leave yours at the hotel.

Combine with a Rajasthan holiday

Add a Jaipur leopard drive to a Golden Triangle trip, or link Jawai with Udaipur or Jodhpur, each about three hours away by road. We plan hotel nights and private transfers around your arrival and departure.

The three places

Rajasthan Leopard Safari Destinations

01 · Jaipur

Jhalana: Leopard Safari Inside Jaipur

Jhalana Leopard Reserve lies inside Jaipur city, in dry forest, scrub and rocky slopes that run right up to the suburbs. If you're staying in Jaipur, it's the simplest leopard safari to fit in. Each drive lasts about 2.5 hours in an open Gypsy or a canter, with a forest guide on board who follows the route allotted with your permit. The reserve is open all year.

Jhalana suits travellers with limited time, families who want a short wildlife outing and anyone pairing a safari with Jaipur's forts and bazaars. We book the permit in your name and arrange the hotel pickup or a private car. A sighting is never guaranteed.

What we can book

  • Jaipur sightseeing before or after the drive

02 · Eastern Jaipur

Amagarh: Leopard Safari on Jaipur's Eastern Edge

Amagarh Leopard Reserve is on Jaipur's eastern side, in the hills near Galta. The scrub and rocky ridges feel far from the city, though the old town is only a short drive away. It sees far fewer vehicles than Jhalana, so drives tend to be quieter.

Amagarh suits travellers who have already seen Jaipur's main sights or want a second leopard drive. The forest department sets its routes and timings, and they change more often than Jhalana's, so we confirm them for your date before you pay. Leopards move freely and may stay out of sight.

03 · Pali district

Jawai: Leopards Among Granite Hills and Villages

Jawai is in Pali district, in granite hill country between Udaipur and Jodhpur, about three hours by road from each. It is not a national park. Drives run on open village and community land, where leopards share the hills with Rabari herders, their livestock and small hill temples. The nearest railway station is Jawai Bandh.

Drives use open jeeps and go out at dawn and dusk, when leopards come out onto the rocks. Local guides pick the route each day from recent sightings. Jawai Dam nearby has mugger crocodiles and, in winter, migratory birds. Stay at least two nights so the trip isn't rushed and you get more than one drive.

Jawai suits photographers, couples, families and anyone who wants a rural stay. We arrange the drives, your stay and transfers from Udaipur, Jodhpur or Jawai Bandh. Sightings can't be guaranteed.

Who it's for

Leopard Safari Rajasthan for Families, Couples, Solo Travellers and Photographers

Families

In Jaipur, a Jhalana or Amagarh drive fits easily around the rest of the day. We check age rules and the right vehicle for your group. For Jawai, allow more travel time; we'll pick a stay that suits children.

Couples

Pair a Jaipur city stay with a leopard drive, or spend two quiet nights in Jawai's hills. We arrange a private car and hotel, with every cost listed in the quote.

Solo travellers

We check whether a shared seat or a private jeep is open on your date and tell you about any minimum charge. You get clear reporting instructions before the trip.

Wildlife photographers

Jawai's rocks give you strong compositions in early and late light, and Jaipur's reserves give you leopards with the city on the horizon. Follow your guide, skip the flash and leave drones behind.

Plan by season

Best Time for a Rajasthan Leopard Safari

Short answer: Jhalana and Jawai run through most of the year. October to February is the most comfortable season. March to June is hot, but leopards are often seen near water and in shade. July to September brings rain, which can change routes and timings.

In winter, carry a warm layer for the early drives. In summer, bring water, sun protection and light clothing. In the monsoon, roads and visibility can change from day to day.

Whatever the month, we confirm the latest opening status and the exact morning or evening reporting time for Jhalana, Amagarh or Jawai before you pay for anything non-refundable.

FAQ

Rajasthan Leopard Safari FAQs

Can't find your answer? Call or WhatsApp +91 77373 10027.

Where can I do a leopard safari in Rajasthan?

Safari Tour India runs leopard safaris in three places: Jhalana Leopard Reserve inside Jaipur city, Amagarh Leopard Reserve on Jaipur's eastern edge, and Jawai in Pali district, among granite hills between Udaipur and Jodhpur. Jaipur's reserves suit a short add-on to sightseeing, while Jawai suits a stay of two nights or more.

Which is better for leopards: Jhalana or Jawai?

They are very different. Jhalana is a forest reserve inside Jaipur that fits into a city visit. Jawai is open granite country where leopards live close to villages and Rabari herders, and it's popular with photographers. Neither guarantees a sighting, so choose by your route, time and the landscape you want.

Is a leopard sighting guaranteed?

No. Leopards are wild and shy, and they move freely through their habitat. Guides know the area well, but no one can promise a sighting on any drive. Booking two or three drives gives you a better chance, and the birds, hyenas, jackals and nilgai make each drive worthwhile anyway.

What is the best time for a Rajasthan leopard safari?

October to February is the most comfortable season. March to June is hot, but leopards are often seen near water and in shade. July to September brings rain, which can change routes and timings. Jhalana is open all year, and Jawai runs through most of the year.

What is the price of a Rajasthan leopard safari?

There is no single price. It depends on the place, the permit category, a shared seat or private jeep, the number of drives, your nationality (foreign visitors pay a higher permit fee), and any hotel or transfers you add. Send us your group size and dates and we'll share an itemised quote.

How long is a leopard safari in Jaipur?

A Jhalana drive lasts about 2.5 hours. Add time for the hotel pickup, reporting at the gate and the drive back. Amagarh drives are similar, though timings are set by the forest department and can change, so we confirm them for your date and send reporting instructions before the safari.

Can I do a leopard safari and Jaipur sightseeing on the same day?

Yes. Because Jhalana and Amagarh are in Jaipur, many guests take a morning drive and then see Amber Fort and the City Palace, or sightsee first and take an evening drive. We plan the day around your confirmed slot and avoid tight onward travel right after the drive.

Is Jawai a national park?

No. Jawai is not a national park. Leopard drives run on open village and community land among granite hills, where wildlife shares the landscape with local villagers, Rabari herders and hill temples. Follow your guide's instructions and respect the private and community land throughout the drive.

What documents do I need to book?

Indian travellers need a government photo ID such as Aadhaar and must carry the same original ID on the day. International visitors book with their passport details and carry the original passport. We confirm the exact documents for your safari before you pay.

Can I combine a leopard safari with a tiger safari in Ranthambore?

Yes. Ranthambore is about 3 to 4 hours from Jaipur, so a Jaipur leopard drive and a Ranthambore tiger safari fit well into one trip. We are based in Ranthambore, Sawai Madhopur, and can plan both together. See our Rajasthan Tiger Safari page for the tiger side.

Book Your Rajasthan Leopard Safari

Tell us which place you want and when you're travelling. We'll sort the permit, hotel, private transfers and sightseeing, and send a day-by-day itinerary with an itemised quote. Leopards are wild, so sightings are never guaranteed.

Please share: Jhalana, Amagarh or Jawai, your date or date range, number of travellers, shared or private jeep, hotel and transport needs, and your starting city or arrival airport.
