Plan from Abroad

The holy town

Why Choose Safari Tour India for Pushkar Tour Packages?

Pushkar is one of India's oldest pilgrimage towns, built around a sacred lake and home to one of the very few Brahma temples in the world. It's small and easy to walk, and it moves at a slow pace. It's also a vegetarian town: no meat, eggs or alcohol are served.

See it in a day, or stay a night or two and add Ajmer. We plan the version that fits your time.

What we plan for you

  • A sightseeing plan built around your available time
  • A private car for the drive and local sightseeing
  • A hotel near the lake, or a desert camp just outside town
  • Jaipur to Pushkar day trips, timed for the traffic
  • Ajmer and Pushkar combined in one easy route
  • Pushkar as one stop on a longer Rajasthan holiday
  • Camel Fair stays and transfers, booked well ahead

Your final plan lists the stay, car, meals, tickets and activities, so you know exactly what's included.

What Pushkar is famous for

Best Places to Visit in Pushkar, Rajasthan

Pushkar is best known for its holy lake, the Brahma Temple, its ghats and the yearly Camel Fair. These are the stops we build your Pushkar sightseeing package around.

01

Brahma Temple

One of the very few temples in the world dedicated to Lord Brahma, the Hindu creator god. The present temple dates mostly from the 14th century, with a red spire and a swan (hamsa) carved above the gate. Leather items aren't allowed inside, and phones and cameras are usually kept outside. We confirm the current rules for your visit.

02

Pushkar Lake and Its Ghats

The holy lake is ringed by 52 ghats, where pilgrims bathe and pray. The evening aarti, with bells, chanting and lamps on the water, happens at sunset at the main ghats. Take off your shoes before stepping onto a ghat, and never photograph people bathing without asking.

03

Savitri Mata Temple

Set on Ratnagiri Hill above town, with the best view of Pushkar and its lake. Walk up in about an hour, or take the ropeway in a few minutes. Go early for sunrise and cooler air. We check whether the ropeway is running on your date.

04

Pushkar's Local Markets

Sadar Bazaar runs along the lake. Shop for silver jewellery, rose water and gulkand made from local roses, colourful textiles, leather bags and souvenirs. Try a hot malpua, Pushkar's famous sweet. Tell us if shopping is a priority and we'll keep time for it.

Good buys

  • Silver jewellery
  • Rose water and gulkand
  • Textiles and bags
  • Malpua sweets

05

Pushkar's Historic Streets and Temples

Pushkar is said to have hundreds of temples. Besides the big ones, walk past the South Indian-style Rangji Temple, the Varaha Temple and the Gayatri Temple on the hill opposite Savitri, which is good at sunset. The lanes are narrow and mostly closed to cars, so this part is on foot. A local guide can be added on request.

06

Pushkar Camel Fair

Every year in the Hindu month of Kartik, usually October or November, thousands of camels and traders gather on the dunes at the edge of town. Expect camel trading, races, folk music and fun contests, ending with the holy dip on Kartik Purnima. Dates change every year, and we confirm them for you.

Ghat etiquette

Dress modestly at the ghats and temples. Some priests at the lake offer a flower puja. It's entirely your choice, so accept only if you want one, and agree on any donation first.

Sightseeing

Pushkar Sightseeing Package: What Can You Include?

Choose the temples, the lake, the markets or a mix of all three. Some stops involve steps or short walks where cars can't go, so we plan the route around that, plus the traffic, weather and timings.

Already staying in Pushkar? Tell us your hotel and how many hours you have, and we plan a local sightseeing route for you.

  • Savitri Mata Temple, by trek or ropeway
